UPDATE @ 5:40 PM: Memphis city council members passed the controversial ordinance with a vote of 7-6.The controversial ordinance which aims to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana will go before the Memphis City Council once again.This is the third and final reading of this proposed ordinance.

Memphis police officers will now have discretion over consequences for people they find with small amounts of marijuana.The Memphis City Council voted 7 to 6 to pass an ordinance that would give officers an option of issuing a $50 fine instead of jail time.There are still a lot of questions and concerns surrounding how this is going to work and what this sets the stage for.
